Liverpool’s pursuit of defender could be moved forward to January if Schalke suffering continues

Jurgen Klopp’s need for a proper left back at Liverpool is clearly top of his list of priorities. James Milner has done well filling in, but he is not an ideal long term solution, and his talents could be used effectively elswhere.

One of the names being suggested recently is Sead Kolasinac, who plays for Schalke. The German club have been struggling, and with the emergence of RB Leipzig and a resurgent Dortmund, the side from Gelsenkirchen look likely to miss out on the Champions League, even at this early stage of the season.

The Mirror report that this will mean cost cutting, with a host of talents including the Liverpool target suddenly looking a lot more attainable for other teams.

Perhaps Joel Matip’s early success at Liverpool is paving the way for his former teammates to join him.

While Schalke may be able to keep hold of their stars through the winter window, it certainly looks like they won’t be able to keep all of them next summer. Premier League teams will be watching their league position with interest.
