Tottenham injury news: Pochettino gets massive boost as key man to return against Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to welcome Toby Alderweireld back to the starting line-up for their showdown with Manchester United this weekend.

The Belgian international had been sidelined for almost two months after suffering a knee injury away at West Bromwich Albion in October.

However, he came off the bench to make his return in Spurs’ win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League in midweek, and according to The Daily Star, he’s set to make his full comeback from the opening whistle on Sunday.

Given the partnership that Alderweireld has built with compatriot Jan Vertonghen at the heart of the Tottenham defence, it will come as a major boost for Pochettino to see that central pairing restored in the starting XI.

Even more so considering the magnitude of the game, as it will be welcome news for Spurs fans as they hope to secure all three points at Old Trafford and extend their lead over United in the standings.

Ahead of kick off, Tottenham sit six points ahead of United with an opportunity to put more daylight between them this weekend while simultaneously trying to keep up the pressure on the top four and close the three-point gap to Manchester City.

United will be desperate for a positive result in this one as they can ill-afford to slip further behind, but it looks as though Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Co. will have to find a way past the formidable Belgian duo who will be absolutely crucial to Tottenham’s hopes of success this season.
