Arsenal handed huge transfer boost as €36m target axed by current club

Arsenal have reportedly been alerted as long-time transfer target Julian Draxler has been dropped by Wolfsburg for their clash with Bayern Munich this weekend.

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to north London this past summer, as noted by the Metro, as he revealed his future intentions to leave Wolfsburg given his ambitions went beyond those of the club.

In turn, it has been felt that it is merely a matter of time before he moves on, but it looks as though that process has been speeded up by the Bundesliga giants who have axed him from their match-day squad this weekend.

It’s suggested that given the club’s current plight, they are only interested in selecting committed players who will get them out of trouble, and so a knock-on effect is that Draxler could now be available in the January transfer window if Arsenal are still keen to swoop for him.

Wolfsburg signed the German international for €36m last summer, as noted by ESPN FC, and it’s assumed that it will take a similar kind of fee for Arsenal to prise him away.

Although Arsene Wenger’s squad is blessed with several attacking options that play the same role as Draxler, on-going doubt and speculation over the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez due to their contract talks could force the Frenchman into considering a bid for a possible replacement for either of the two.

Nevertheless, with Wolfsburg seemingly making their intentions clear by dropping Draxler for a huge game this weekend, it will certainly invite interested parties to make their inquiries.
