Manchester City scout Dortmund star who has scored more goals than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this season

Manchester City are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to The Sun.

The Sun report that City director of football Txiki Begiristain personally scouted the Gabon international as Pep Guardiola looks for reinforcements in attack.

Sergio Aguero and Kelechi Iheanacho remain the only natural centre-fowards in City’s squad, so it comes as no surprise that they are looking to add to that area of the field. That weakness was clear to see during their 4-2 loss against Leicester on Saturday evening, as Aguero’s suspension left Iheanacho to deputise; unfortunately for City, the Nigerian fell short.

Aubameyang would provide genuine competition for Aguero in City’s forward line. He has scored 19 goals in 20 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions so far this campaign. In fact, he has scored more goals than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues this term.

The Sun believe that City have concerns over Aguero’s long-term future at the club under Guardiola’s stewardship. Aubameyang would be a more than suitable replacement if the Argentine was to leave the Etihad.
