Italian transfer sites including GazzaMercato have been linking Liverpool with Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel for some time now. The Frenchman has been in red hot form for the Serie A side this season, and as his profile has grown so has the number of interested teams.
25 year old Defrel is comparable to Daniel Sturridge, although a little shorter and faster with the ball. He has excellent finishing skills and is rattling towards over 20 goals this season, with 8 in 20 appearances.
While he would fit very nicely into the speedy, technical front three that Liverpool have been operating with, West Ham represent a real threat. The Hammers are desperate for firepower up front, and with potential relegation looming they are likely to be willing to spend big money to secure a striker in January.
Perhaps the pulling power of Liverpool will be enough to get their man, but with minutes on the pitch all but guaranteed at the Olympic Stadium, one couldn’t blame Defrel for picking that option.
