Southampton have named their price for centre-back Jose Fonte as they expect Manchester United to come in with an offer in the January transfer window.
The Sun report that the Saints will ask for as much as £15 million for the 32-year-old to ward off interest from Jose Mourinho, who is a keen admirer of his compatriot.
The tabloid note that Claude Puel’s side may opt to sell Fonte if the price is right, as their captain enters the final 18 months of his contract at St. Mary’s. They believe that Southampton would prefer to get a reasonable sum of money in exchange for him opposed to losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.
Fonte has made 282 appearances at the heart of the Southampton defence since joining the side in 2010. In 2014 he was handed the armband and has captained the side ever since.
His wealth of experience and dependable defensive style would no doubt be extremely attractive to Mourinho, but he is not going to sign him on the cheap.
