Key Tottenham ace “absolutely not” going anywhere insists Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Eric Dier will not be leaving the club, amid speculation of interest from around Europe.

Given that the England international only agreed a new deal in September, it would be a shock to see him leave, and it doesn’t appear that will happen.

Having recently dropped out of the starting line-up, Dier started against Hull City in midweek and impressed. With his name cropping up in the papers, Pochettino was keen to put the record straight.

“Absolutely not. Eric Dier is our player,” he told Sky Sports.

“He extended his contract and improved his salary after the Euros. There is no doubt that his future is here at Tottenham.”

The 22-year-old has established himself as an important figure in the Spurs squad since his arrival in 2014, with his all-round game and versatility proving to be key characteristics for Pochettino.

Although things haven’t gone as smoothly for Tottenham so far this season, they’ll hope that the win over Hull will spark a good run of form and see them continue to close the gap on the sides above them in the Premier League standings.

As they prepare to welcome Burnley to White Hart Lane this weekend, Tottenham sit in fifth place and just three points beyond Manchester City in fourth. With Dier seemingly a big part of their future after talk of an exit was dismissed, he’ll hope to play his part in ensuring that Spurs get back into the Champions League at the very least next season.
