Pep Guardiola to end 10-year Manchester City stalwart’s stint with £20m signing

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly set to splash out £20m on Benfica goalkeeper Ederson Moraes to effectively end Joe Hart’s time at the club.

The England international was sent out on a season-long loan spell to Torino this past summer, with Claudio Bravo arriving from Barcelona to become Guardiola’s first-choice between the posts.

Despite the fact that the Chilean shot-stopper has failed to entirely convince since his move to Manchester, he is set to remain as number one this season and beyond but The Sun claim that Guardiola is looking at signing Moraes in a deal worth £20m at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has established himself as a key figure for club and country and is highly-rated, and while he will likely begin life at the Etihad as back-up, he will be seen as the long-term solution.

Regardless, if City do sign him next summer, it won’t be positive news for Hart who would have possibly hoped that had he impressed in Turin, he could have fought his way back into Guardiola’s plans.

Unfortunately for the 29-year-old, it doesn’t look as though it will play out that way and so he’ll have to consider his options moving forward while focusing on making his spell in Serie A a success in the short term.

As for Bravo, if he is to face further competition, he’ll be keen to start improving his displays and becoming a more reliable presence in the team otherwise he could be at risk of being snubbed by Guardiola too.
