Stoke City interested in signing Chelsea reserve who has not made a Premier League appearance since May

Stoke City are interested in signing former goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Chelsea in the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.

The Mirror report that Stoke are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper in wake of Jack Butland’s injury, with Derby’s Lee Grant being their number one target. However, the tabloid believes that Mark Hughes has been put off by Grant’s £4 million valuation and will subsequently pursue other options.

Begovic, as per the Mirror, is one of those options. They report that Stoke could make a move to re-sign their former number one on a short-term loan deal in the January transfer window to fill the void between the sticks.

The Bosnian is firmly second choice to Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge, with the Belgian having kept an astounding eight clean-sheets in his last eleven Premier League appearances.

Begovic has not made a league appearance since May this year, so after seven months glued to the substitutes bench he could be interested in leaving the Blues in search of first-team football.
