Chelsea transfer news: Conte to use the money raised by the sale of Oscar to bid a club record £75M for Real Madrid star

Chelsea are plotting a move for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez in the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.

The Mirror believe that the Blues will raise a staggering £62 million from the sale of midfielder Oscar to Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG. They believe that Antonio Conte will look to fill that void in his midfield by making a move for Rodriguez, who is being starved of opportunities at the Bernabeu.

As per the Mirror, Chelsea made a move to sign Rodriguez in the summer, but the move was blocked by Real who were unwilling to sell. The tabloid do believe, however, that they will have more luck in their hunt for his signature in the winter window.

The Mirror report that Los Blancos will want to recoup the £75 million they spent on Rodriguez, but this will not be a stumbling block for Chelsea, who will effectively be spending just £13 million once Oscar’s sale becomes official. If Chelsea do part with £75 million to sign the Colombian, it will be the highest fee they have ever paid for a player.
