Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is in advanced talks with Ligue 1 giants Marseille according to Nigeria head-coach Gernot Rohr, as reported by Goal.

Mikel has become a cornerstone of the Chelsea squad since joining the Blues in the summer of 2006. A plethora of players have come and gone at the Bridge in the decade he has spent at the Bridge, but he stands firm, making 374 appearances and scoring six goals.

The Mikel-Chelsea love affair could about to come to an end now, however, according to Rohr. Goal cite Europe 1 in quoting the Nigeria manager, who claims that Mikel is on the brink of leaving the Blues: “I saw Obi Mikel in London, he is in advanced discussions with Olympique Marseille. He will leave Chelsea for free.”

Mikel became a key figure in Guus Hiddink’s midfield as he attempted to steady the ship at Stamford Bridge last campaign. Under Antonio Conte, however, he has been nowhere to be seen.

After ten years, 11 major trophies and 374 games – Mikel could finally be about to leave Chelsea.
