Former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta proved his loyalty to the Gunners by refusing to celebrate Raheem Sterling’s winning goal yesterday evening.

Arteta made 149 appearances for Arsenal after joining them from Everton in the summer of 2011. In August 2014 he was named the club’s captain, taking over from the departing Thomas Vermaelen. However, his final two seasons at the Emirates were plagued by injuries and he only ever wore the armband 25 times.

In the summer he joined up with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City as part of his coaching team. He does not appear to have switched allegiances, however, as he remained completely unmoved by Sterling’s winner.
