Chelsea dealt blow in their pursuit of £75M attacking midfielder as Serie A giants emerge as favourites to secure his signature

Chelsea have been dealt with a blow ahead of the upcoming January transfer window as Juventus have reportedly emerged as favourites to sign James Rodriguez.

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that the Colombian was edging closer to a move to Stamford Bridge. The tabloid reported that Antonio Conte would use the £60 million fee received through the sale of Oscar to bankroll a £75 million move for James.

However, now Football Espana cite reports from inside the Spanish and Italian media to report that Juventus are now favourites to secure his signature. They report that Massimiliano Allegri is preparing an offer for the Real Madrid midfielder in a bid to fill the void left by Paul Pogba in the summer.

Football Espana also cite La Gazzetta dello Sport in quoting Juventus director Giuseppi Marotta, who left the door open to making a move for James: “James? It depends on how our market is.”

The competition appears to be hotting up to sign James, who is still widely regarded as one of the most talented attacking players on the planet.
