Manchester United suffer defensive blow as centre-back could miss 22 days of action due to international duty

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho confirmed in his press conference today that defender Eric Bailly will go to the African Cup of Nations in January, according to Simon Stone of BBC Sport.

Bailly has been in the wars since moving to United in the summer. He was sidelined for two months with an injury sustained during his side’s 4-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in October. He was then knocked out during United’s victory over Crystal Palace less than two weeks ago.

He will not be given any respite, however, as Simon Stone reveals Mourinho confirmed he will be going to AFCON in January to play for the Ivory Coast.

The Special One will have to look for alternative options for the United back-line, and he will be encouraged by Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones’ recent form.

Depending on how far his country go in the competition, Bailly could be in Gabon from the 14th of January until February 5th.
