Wayne Rooney tempted away from Manchester United by astronomical £700k-a-week offers from China

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is weighing up offers from Chinese Super League sides that would make him the best-paid footballer in the world, according to the Mirror.

The Mirror report that Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao and Beijing Guoan are trying to tempt Rooney away from Old Trafford with offers of up to £700,000-a-week. They note that out-going Chelsea midfielder Oscar will earn £400,000-a-week at Shanghai SIPG and Rooney’s former United teammate Carlos Tevez will earn £615,000-a-week at Shanghai Shenhua; but the United captain has been offered deals that would blow both out of the water.

As per the Mirror, however, Rooney would not be interested in leaving United in the January transfer window. The England international needs just one more goal to draw level with Sir Bobby Charlton as United’s all-time top goalscorer, and will undoubtedly look to eclipse him before departing.

The tabloid note that should Rooney leave United, Jose Mourinho’s side would demand a fee of £10 million.
