Best 2016 Premier League summer signings: 7.71/10 Liverpool star beats £89m ace and Chelsea trio to first place

Sky Sports and WhoScored.com have teamed up to discuss which player was the best Premier League summer signing of 2016 with a whole host of big names involved.

Victor Wanyama, Joel Matip and Shkodran Mustafi, Idrissa Gueye have all been included in the top 10, while David Luiz is forced to settle for eighth spot with a rating of 7.16, as noted by Sky Sports, with WhoScored using their rating system to dish out scores out of 10.

The Brazilian has been refreshingly good since returning to Stamford Bridge, and has played a fundamental role in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system which has taken Chelsea to the top of the Premier League.

In turn, it’s no surprise to see that he isn’t the only Blues star to make the top 10 with midfield enforcer N’Golo Kante in at number five.

Having adapted brilliantly to life in west London where his role is slightly different to the one he was asked to play at Leicester City, it’s no surprise to see the Frenchman involved in the discussion.

However, he is behind Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the rankings, with the big Swede given a 7.42 rating after bagging 11 goals in 16 Premier League appearances.

Although it’s come with a significant goal drought, the 34-year-old has impressed overall and deserves his spot so high up the listings having silenced the majority of the doubters who questioned his ability to have an impact in the English top flight so late in his career.

Nevertheless, he sits behind Marcos Alonso who has been crucial to making Conte’s system work too and the Spaniard has certainly showed how far his game has come after a successful spell in Italy.

Paul Pogba has overcome a slow start to life at United to come in at second place with a 7.70 rating, as the French international is now starting to hit his stride and prove his worth to Jose Mourinho.

Having failed to settle immediately, the knives were out for the man that cost £89m, as per BBC Sport, but with three goals, two assists and increasingly commanding overall displays, things are looking good.

However, it isn’t enough to knock Sadio Mane off top spot, with the Liverpool forward making a stunning start to life at Anfield since his summer switch from Southampton.

With eight goals and four assists to his name, none of his Liverpool teammates have been as involved in goals this season and he has proven to be Jurgen Klopp’s most effective signing yet.
