Liverpool move in on second choice after missing out on Julian Draxler

Liverpool look to have missed out on Julian Draxler. The German attacker had been linked with a move to Merseyside, but since PSG got involved it’s looked almost inevitable that the former Schalke man would be heading to Paris instead.

According to the Mirror, this means that Liverpool have changed their target to their second choice – Quincy Promes.

The Spartak winger is garnering attention from all over the continent with impressive performances in the Russian league, and his club’s sporting director confirmed that there was a release clause in his contract – although he did not reveal what it was.

Jurgen Klopp will be without attacker Sadio Mane soon when the Africa Cup of Nations arrives, and already has Philippe Coutinho out injured, so it’s no surprise he’s looking for cover in attacking areas. Promes is not yet a top player, but he looks like a solid investment with plenty of potential, and certainly is less of a financial risk than Draxler would be, both in terms of transfer fee and wages.
