Wayne Rooney was not in the Man U team that beat Sunderland yesterday, and the striker may now struggle for minutes in the coming weeks.
United manager Jose Mourinho confirmed to Sky Sports that Rooney had missed out because of injury, and that he may be a doubt for games to come.
With United facing Middlesbrough on New Year’s Eve, their captain looks set to miss out again. Then two days later the Red Devils play again, and that will probably come too soon for the England man too.
All in all, Rooney looks certain to miss the next two games, and if United continue playing well and winning, he will struggle to regain his place anytime soon.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the line the Red Devils looked very comfortable against Sunderland, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored again to cement his place in the side.
With so much competition for places, it could be a while before we see Rooney’s unique face on the pitch again.
