£25m Manchester United flop informs Jose Mourinho he wants to end misery at Old Trafford

Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has reportedly told Jose Mourinho that he wants to leave the club and in turn the Red Devils will listen to offers in January.

The 22-year-old has been limited to just eight appearances in all competitions so far this season, failing to register a single goal or assist as he has struggled to break into Mourinho’s plans.

With such fierce competition for places, the Dutch international has slipped down the pecking order and ultimately has failed to live up to his £25m price-tag when signed from PSV Eindhoven last year, with United now set to offload him, according to The Sun.

It’s claimed that the Premier League giants will listen to offers in the New Year, and despite his struggles at Old Trafford, given his form for PSV and his national team prior to his switch to England, there will still be several clubs keen on helping him rediscover his best form.

Mourinho has been spoilt for choice in the attacking positions this season, with the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all capable of playing around Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Depay has seemingly been forgotten amidst all that, although as noted by the Sun, being spotted smoking a shisha pipe this past week in Rotterdam wasn’t exactly the right message to be sending to his manager.

It remains to be seen if Depay gets his exit in January as the deal will have to make sense for United too, but it appears on the basis of this report that both parties are in agreement that the best solution is for him to move on and kickstart his career elsewhere.
