Marcos Alonso has been great for Chelsea as a left wing back in their 343 this season, but it’s hard to deny that there are better players in the world in that position.
He’s good on the ball and in the air too, and joins in with the play nicely in midfield.
However he’s a little slow and ungainly at times, and his crossing leaves a lot to be desired.
It’s no wonder then to hear the Blues linked with new options in that position, this time Napoli’s left sided flyer Faouzi Ghoulam.
The 25 year old has been outstanding for the South Italian team since breaking into their side last season, and his dynamism on the flank is just what Antonio Conte would like to add to his current squad.
With no natural backup to Alonso in the squad at the moment and continental football looking all but guaranteed this season, this seems like a transfer that makes a huge amount of sense for the Blues.
