Liverpool confirmed starting line-up vs Sunderland: Sturridge starts as Klopp hopes for big performance

Liverpool will look to temporarily close the gap on Premier League leaders Chelsea when they travel to Sunderland on Monday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently trail their rivals by six points, but a win over the Black Cats would shorten the gap and put the pressure on Antonio Conte and his players.

Having now won their last four league outings, the signs are positive for the Reds as they continue to emerge as Chelsea’s biggest rivals for the title, but Klopp will be guarding against complacency and will want a professional job from his players.

These two sides met at the end of November with Liverpool picking up a 2-0 win at Anfield, and given Sunderland’s recent form having lost their last two and conceded seven goals in the process, it doesn’t look good for the hosts.

The big teams news for Liverpool is that Daniel Sturridge starts, and he will accompany Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in a dangerous attacking trident.

Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can form the midfield, while Simon Mignolet keeps his place in goal in front the same back four that faced Manchester City.

As for Sunderland, they make three changes from the side that lost to Burnley last time out, but the onus will remain on Jermain Defoe to cause the upset.
