Manchester United asking giant fee for forgotten midfielder

Manchester United have rejected a £19m bid for Morgan Schneiderlin, according to the Telegraph.

The paper reports that Everton have made the midfielder their top January target, with Ronald Koeman hoping to get the best out of the Frenchman once again after a successful period at Southampton

Despite barely having featured in his time at Old Trafford, the Red Devils are holding out for more than £20m for Schneiderlin, bearing in mind that they paid £24m for him 18 months ago.

It seems an ambitious price – even in the modern market few players maintain or increase their value when they aren’t playing.

But it seems like United might manage to recoup the best part of their investment in any case, with the most recent Everton offer significantly better than the £13m initial attempt from West Brom.

With games coming thick and fast over the festive period, Koeman will want to get his business done as quickly as possible so that he can use Schneiderlin’s fresh legs over the next few weeks.
