Chelsea goalscoring hero set for January exit as Conte prefers reunion with veteran

Despite his impact in the FA Cup on Sunday, Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is reportedly still set to leave Stamford Bridge this month.

The Belgian international has struggled for playing time so far this season, with Diego Costa’s form forcing him to cut a frustrated figure on the Chelsea bench.

Despite assurances from Antonio Conte and an impressive display in the 4-1 win over Peterborough on Sunday, during which he ended his four-month goal drought with a well taken goal, Sky Sports claim that Batshuayi could still be used as a sweetener in a deal to sign Fernando Llorente from Swansea City.

It’s unclear at this stage as to whether both, or either, will be loan deals or permanent moves, but the interest is there in making the deal happen as per the report.

Conte knows the Spaniard well from their time together at Juventus which resulted in a Serie A title in 2014, and he’s seemingly keen on a reunion at Chelsea for the second half of the campaign.

However, it would be a major disappointment for most Chelsea supporters to see Batshuayi leave, as he has continued to push for a chance to impress in the first team despite being given limited minutes in the Premier League.

Given the £33m spent to sign him from Marseille last summer, as per The Guardian, there will surely be a desire to see him succeed at Stamford Bridge in the long-term even if it means a short stint at Swansea to gain form, fitness and experience.

Nevertheless, it will certainly be a knock to his confidence to have to leave Chelsea after just six months or so at the club, although Swansea will be the big winners in the deal as they have struggled for goals and Batshuayi could be the man to fire them to Premier League safety.
