Chelsea dealt transfer blow as European giants confirm signing of top Conte target

Chelsea have missed out on reported target Niklas Sule after Bayern Munich confirmed the signing of the Hoffenheim defender on Sunday.

As seen below, the Bavarian giants took to Twitter on Sunday morning to confirm the double signing of Sule and Sebastian Rudy in the summer as Carlo Ancelotti adds two quality young players to his already talented squad.

While that will be a major boost for Bayern, it will come as disappointing news for Antonio Conte with The Mirror noting earlier this week that they were still pushing to try and sign Sule.

The 21-year-old appeared to be set to remain in Germany at that stage, and now it has ultimately just been confirmed with Conte now having to look elsewhere to bolster his defensive options.

With John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic expected to move on this summer and with David Luiz and Gary Cahill around the 30 mark, Chelsea do need to consider their long-term options at the back moving forward.

Sule fit the bill as noted by the Mirror as he ticked several key boxes, but that no longer matters as it will be Bayern who now benefit from his early promise and continued development.

The commanding centre-half has represented his country at every youth level and made his debut for the senior side last year. In turn, working with international teammates such as Manuel Neuer and Mats Hummels will only further help his improvement and maturity and it looks as though Bayern have put in place big pieces for their future.

As for Chelsea, they will have to continue their search for a new defender, with Conte likely to be content to wait until the summer rather than panic buy this month.
