Liverpool flop who commanded a £20M transfer fee could be sent back from loan early after failing to impress

Lazar Markovic is set to return to Liverpool after struggling for form during his loan spell at Sporting Lisbon, according to The Sun.

Markovic moved to Anfield in the summer of 2014, for what The Sun report to be a £20 million fee. His hefty price-tag brought high expectations, but he failed to make any sort of an impact in a Liverpool shirt.

He made 34 appearances during his debut season for the Reds, but only managed to find the back of the net on three occasions. He subsequently joined Sporting Lisbon on loan in a bid to revive his form.

However, he has struggled to replicate anything like his best performance level in Portugal, and as per The Sun, he is set to return to Liverpool.

The Sun believe that it could cost Sporting as much as £1 million to send Markovic back to Jurgen Klopp’s side, but that is a price that they may well be willing to pay.
