Jose Mourinho doesn’t want to hear Rooney record discussed any more

Jose Mourinho has said that he doesn’t want to hear any more about Wayne Rooney’s recording breaking goal against Stoke yesterday.

According to Squawka news, the Manchester United boss has emphasised that he wanted his players to appreciate the striker’s amazing record for today, and then return to work on Monday and not mention it again.

“I think you should speak about Wayne’s record, today and tomorrow, 24 hours per day and then finish. Then let him be again a normal guy.”

United went behind to an early goal against Stoke and it took them until the 95th minute to battle back into the game, with Rooney finally scoring the goal that took him past Sir Bobby Charlton’s record as top Man U goalscorer.

As much as he’s happy to have got the record itself, Rooney will be please just to have the discussion about it fade away. It has been a real albatross around his neck in recent weeks as he’s searched for the last one, and it’s no surprise to see his manager wanting everyone to move on and leave the Englishman to focus on his game.
