Chelsea star linked with shock move to Spanish giants after struggles under Conte

Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer in what would be a controversial move by the former Barcelona man.

The 29-year-old has found first-team appearances difficult to come by this season, with Antonio Conte preferring a midfield duo of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic.

He’s preferred that for a reason as it’s been crucial in Chelsea’s march towards the Premier League title, although Fabregas has been key off the bench at times to give them a creative spark.

In 20 mainly fleeting appearances, the Spaniard has still managed to score four goals and provide seven assists, and so evidently he has a key role to play at Stamford Bridge.

However, according to Diario Gol, he may have a difficult choice on his hands as Real are keen to take him back to Spain this summer with Zinedine Zidane looking to bolster his squad with a playmaker with Fabregas’s characteristics.

Given his history with their bitter rivals Barca, it would seem like a complicated move for him to make having left his boyhood club for a second time to move to Chelsea in 2014.

Nevertheless, it’s claimed that the Premier League leaders are ready to cash in at the end of the season and Madrid are ready to make their move which suggests that Fabregas may have a difficult decision to make in a few months time.

Should Chelsea lose the Spanish international, Conte will have to bring in a sufficient replacement as the leaders are firmly on course to at least return to the Champions League next season.

In order to compete on various fronts,, they need depth. Selling Fabregas would make it even tougher on them, but provided that he has the backing of the club to go out and spend ahead of next season, Conte may be confident enough to allow the former Arsenal ace to leave knowing that reinforcements will arrive.
