Manchester United secured a 2-0 win over Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday to move up to fifth place in the Premier League table and keep the pressure on those above them.
Goals from Juan Mata and Anthony Martial sealed the victory for the hosts, as they temporarily leapfrog bitter rivals Liverpool in the standings.
That can of course change later on Saturday, but it was Martial who emerged as the Man of the Match as he set up Mata for the opening goal, before going on a run, keeping his composure and producing a great finish to double his side’s lead and effectively kill the game.
Jose Mourinho will be delighted with what he saw across the pitch even though the visitors did have their moments, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all producing top performances.
In turn, as they continue to maintain their momentum and put a strong run of form together to continue to push up the table, he’ll be delighted with their progress.
Further, having challenged Martial to prove himself earlier this season, the French forward has done so with three goals and three assists in his last five starts across all competitions.
With statistics like that, he’ll surely be in a strong position to keep his place in the line-up moving forward, as United look to make it 17 unbeaten in the league next time out as their rivals have been warned, the Red Devils are certainly still on the march.
