Arsenal team news: Gunners fans rage as striker will miss Sutton showdown

Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck will miss his side’s FA Cup clash with Sutton on Monday night as he’s been selected to play with the Under-23s on Sunday instead.

The 26-year-old has been working his way back to full fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury, but has impressed in every appearance that he’s made.

With his match sharpness only likely to return completely with regular playing time, Arsene Wenger has been slammed in recent weeks for not starting or picking the England international on his bench and he’s getting more grief on Sunday.

Welbeck started for the Under-23s side against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon, thus ruling out the possibility that he will feature just over 24 hours later at Sutton.

As expected, the reaction to the news hasn’t been kind as many are furious and disappointed that the striker won’t be featuring alongside the senior players on Monday night.

While the former Manchester United star will likely benefit from getting 90 minutes under his belt on Sunday, many would have argued that it would have been more beneficial against Sutton in a meaningful game where he could have made a decisive impact.

Instead, they’ve had to vent their fury on Twitter as it’s another decision that is unlikely to make Wenger a popular figure with them.

With the pressure on after their humiliating defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek, Arsenal must simply advance with a positive result and performance on Monday night or they risk their season collapsing entirely and the supporters going into meltdown over the future of the manager and the players.
