Liverpool in talks to secure £20m summer signing for former Klopp favourite

Liverpool are reportedly discussing the summer signing of Borussia Dortmund forward Mario Gotze, with Jurgen Klopp wanting a reunion with his former star.

The 24-year-old returned to Dortmund from Bayern Munich last summer, but it hasn’t quite worked out for him under Thomas Tuchel.

With just two goals and two assists in 16 appearances in all competitions, coupled with the fierce competition for places at the Bundesliga giants, it appears as though they could be open to letting him leave.

According to the Mirror though, while initial talks over a summer transfer have taken place, it’s claimed that Dortmund want to recoup as much, if not all, of the £20m that they spent to take him back to the club last year.

It remains to be seen whether or not Klopp meets those demands and takes him to Anfield, but given Gotze’s issues over the last couple of years since initially leaving Dortmund, it’s questionable as to whether or not it’s still a smart signing.

Having struggled with injuries and been unable to hold down a regular spot in the starting line-up for Bayern and Dortmund, he has certainly suffered with a dip in his career.

Nevertheless, perhaps Klopp is the perfect man to get the best out of him again having worked so well together in Germany previously, and with Liverpool potentially looking to strengthen for a Champions League campaign next season, it would be a quality addition.

With Daniel Sturridge failing to deliver this season and with an over-reliance on Sadio Mane, an attacking addition would be a sensible move from Liverpool this summer.
