Leicester City slammed by Italian press over Ranieri sacking as BT Sport pundits and Mourinho show support

Leicester City have been roundly criticised after their decision to sack Claudio Ranieri on Thursday, just nine months after they were crowned Premier League champions.

With the Foxes struggling at the wrong end of the table this season, the club hierarchy have taken the ruthless decision to sack the man that brought about their greatest moment ever.

While some will argue that it was the right decision as Leicester can ill-afford to get relegated now, others have rightly slammed the lack of patience, loyalty and respect shown to Ranieri.

Countless supporters made their displeasure known on social media, particularly those who don’t follow Leicester, while La Gazzetta dello Sport led with this on their front-page on Friday.

“Ranieri sacked – ungrateful English. Leicester spoil the fairytale that had enchanted the world. Premier League results and dressing room senators prove decisive.”

Meanwhile, the BT Sport panel watching Tottenham vs Gent had their say on the matter on Thursday night, with Harry Redknapp insisting that he wasn’t surprised as he knows how owners work in terms of making changes if their team isn’t meeting the required standards.

In contrast, Jermaine Jenas and Glenn Hoddle were stunned and highly critical of the decision, while there was also support for Ranieri from a colleague.

The Italian tactician and Jose Mourinho have had their problems over the years during spells managing in Serie A, but it appears as though they’ve put that firmly behind them.

The Manchester United boss took to Instagram to show his support, as seen below, urging his fellow manager to keep smiling as no-one will forget the history that he helped create.
