Major update on Arsene Wenger future is not what many Arsenal fans will want to hear

It has been reported that Arsenal players and the club’s staff are convinced that Arsene Wenger will pen a new two-year contract with the club.

The French tactician’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and there has been widespread speculation that he could walk away.

With Arsenal yet again falling short of winning a major trophy this season, as they trail Premier League leaders Chelsea by 10 points and face a 5-1 deficit to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, calls have been growing louder from sections of supporters for him to leave.

Despite all that though, The Times claim that he remains as determined as ever, with the players and staff convinced that he intends on staying beyond this season.

The report notes that a two-year deal is on the table for Wenger, while he recently revealed that he would make his decision in March or April.

Much of that will likely depend on how the season ends for Arsenal, but there is no doubt that the signing of a new extension will lead to fury from certain supporters.

Having gone so long without winning a league title and having failed to make a dent in the Champions League, many would argue that Wenger must be replaced if Arsenal have ambitions of winning trophies moving forward.

Wenger supporters would argue that the stability that he has brought to the club by continuously finishing in the top four is something that is not valued highly enough given everything that he has had to contend with, and so there is a definite split in the fanbase.

If he does decide to sign a new contract, it will certainly be interesting to see the reaction…
