Manchester United could be set for major swap deal for key Real Madrid star

Real Madrid are reportedly set to try and tempt Manchester United into parting with David De Gea, by offering Raphael Varane in a swap deal.

According to Don Balon, the Madrid ‘untouchable’ is set to be offered to the Red Devils as the Spanish giants continue their bid to try and prise De Gea away from Old Trafford, having failed in their previous attempts.

It’s claimed that president Florentino Perez is ready to overrule Zinedine Zidane with the move, with Varane considered a key part of the squad at the Bernabeu.

However, Perez remains determined to sign De Gea, and particularly with Keylor Navas coming under fire this season, it would appear as though the La Liga leaders need to reinforce with a new shot-stopper.

Jose Mourinho will know Varane well from his time in Madrid, and as he continues to search for a defensive partner for Eric Bailly, it could be an appealing deal in that regard.

Nevertheless, United will surely have no intention of losing one of their key players in De Gea, particularly given that they don’t have a ready-made replacement and so would have to venture into the market to buy another top-class goalkeeper.

In contrast, it’s added that Madrid are already looking at Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos at this stage to replace Varane, and so it would appear as though they are certainly more well prepared than United.

It remains to be seen if the Premier League giants are open to a discussion over the deal, but on the face of it, it doesn’t seem to make too much sense for them.
