We’ve another action packed Saturday as Sheffield Wednesday face Norwich, Derby face Barnsley, Newcastle take on Huddersfield and Reading face Wolves amongst others.
The action is really hotting up in England’s second tier as the promotion and playoff places start to take shape – there’s definitely everything to play for once again this Saturday.
The stand out game in the 3pm kickoffs looks to be Sheffield Wed taking on Norwich City.
It’s a tough time for Norwich City fans as the competitive nature of the Championship has proven too much for the Canaries, who now look almost certain to spend another year in the second tier of English football.
What is certain is that they will need to go on a superb run in their remaining games, and what better way to start it than against promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Whether this is possible or not is another question.
Norwich will be travelling to Hillsborough to face a side who have one of the best home forms in the league, with Sheffield Wednesday having picked up 11 wins of the 16 games they have played there this season.
However, Alex Neil’s men have been poor on the road, having won just 4 matches away from home all season.
However, having said that, it is not an impossible task for the East Anglian side. Sheffield Wednesday have shown in their last couple of games that they can be broken down, as they have lost to both Brentford and Leeds in their most recent two fixtures.
Norwich’s form has not been much better of late, as they have failed to win in their last 3, but should Alex Neil be successful in getting his players hyped up for the occasion, then they will be more than worth the 3 points with the quality in their ranks, even against a stubborn Sheffield Wednesday side.
It will be the Northerner’s game to lose, and should the pressure get to them, then Norwich could close the gap by a vital 3 points at the weekends end – something that could go a long way to the race for the playoffs in the next 12 games.
Wednesday can be backed at 7/5 to notch up another home win, while the Canaries can be backed at 12/5.
Reading will want to get back to winning ways at the Madejski Stadium after two straight defeats on the road. Jaap Stam’s side take on a struggling Wolves outfit who have lost four games on the bounce – the 11/8 in places looks appealing.
Barnsley look more than capable of upsetting Derby at Pride Park – the Tykes have one of the best away records in the Championship and the Rams haven’t won in their last six games in the league.
The Barnsley win/over 2.5 goals double at 7/1 looks more than worthy.
Of course, the big game of the night is in the evening kickoff as Huddersfield face Newcastle. Its very difficult to oppose Newcastle and there won’t be many times Rafa Benitez’s side are available at 7/4.
Get on the Toon to cap off another busy day in the Championship.
