Pep Guardiola prepares £34m bid as he plots major Man City midfield shake up

Man City boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly keen to make changes to his midfield this summer and those plans involve Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.

It’s been an indifferent season for the most part for the Spanish tactician, as although his side currently sit in third place in the Premier League table and just eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea, he has had to overcome some difficult moments.

That was to be expected given that he is merely just at the start of his project at the Etihad, and with another summer transfer market to allow him to bring in his own players, it’s expected that City will only get stronger next season.

According to The Mirror, they plan on bolstering their midfield by meeting the £34m release clause in Carvalho’s contract with Sporting.

The 24-year-old has seemingly emerged as a top target for City, and naturally his arrival would raise question marks about the futures of Yaya Toure and Fernandinho.

As seen across the squad, Guardiola will need to continue to replace an ageing group of players. That process has undoubtedly started with the signings of the likes of John Stones, Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus, but it will have to continue and in key positions too.

It appears as though Carvalho will be the next important piece added to the puzzle, as he has continued to impress for both club and country to emerge as a wanted man around Europe.

While Guardiola will also need to consider his full-backs options and will likely want to strengthen elsewhere too as there are a number of big names reaching the end of their contracts and careers at the top level, his midfield is currently top of the agenda it seems and Carvalho could be the solution that he needs.
