Man Utd ace gets hammered by furious fans after horror blunder vs Middlesbrough

Man Utd defender Chris Smalling was having a decent enough game against Middlesbrough on Sunday, but it went badly wrong in the second half.

Having coped well with the aerial threat posed by the likes of Alvaro Negredo and Rudy Gestede, the United backline looked solid enough to withstand any pressure from the home side.

Goals from Marouane Fellaini and Jesse Lingard had put the Red Devils in a strong position, but Boro found a way back into the game through Gestede.

However, he had a big helping hand from Smalling as the England international had the opportunity to clear his lines but completely fluffed it as he inadvertently directed the ball into the Middlesbrough striker’s path and he made no mistake in slotting it past David de Gea.

It would no doubt be pretty interesting to hear what Jose Mourinho has to say about the attempted clearance, as the goal pushed United right back as they camped in their own half trying to defend their lead in a nervy end to the game.

Smalling will definitely want to forget about it as quickly as possible and will undoubtedly hope it doesn’t lead to his side dropping points…
