Man United boss Jose Mourinho eyes £40M move for Tottenham star who he sees as the heir to Michael Carrick

Manchester United are eyeing a summer move for Tottenham star and England international Eric Dier, according to The Sun.

Dier came through the ranks at Portuguese giants Sporting, and actually endured an unsuccessful loan spell at Premier League outfit Everton before he was able to establish himself as an important member of Sporting’s squad. The 23-year-old went on to make 31 appearances for Sporting, showcasing his talent and subsequently catching the eye of Tottenham.

He immediately became a key figure in Spurs’ squad, and is now a cornerstone in Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield. His good performances for his club side have also seen him become a regular for the England national team, for whom Dier has played 17 times.

According to The Sun, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is keen to draft Dier into his squad in the summer transfer window. The tabloid believe that United see Dier as the heir to Michael Carrick in the pit of their midfield and are preparing a £40million offer. It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to convince Spurs to sell.
