Man Utd to improve £200k-a-week star’s contract to fend off Spanish giants

Real Madrid are still reportedly keen on Man Utd goalkeeper David de Gea, but the Red Devils have a plan to avoid losing their star man.

The Spanish international continues to form an integral part of United’s progress as they look to finish the season well in Jose Mourinho’s first campaign in charge.

However, he hasn’t been able to escape speculation regarding a move to Madrid and so The Sun claim that the Premier League giants are ready to put an end to the talk once and for all.

As per the report, De Gea will become one of the top earners at Old Trafford as United prepare to improve his current £200,000-a-week contract, which has two years remaining on it, with the club having the option of adding another 12 months onto the 26-year-old’s stay.

Whether there is a further extension involved in talks remains to be seen, but evidently United are keen to keep hold of one of their most talented and influential players moving forward to help them get back to former glories.

It’s added in the report that Sergio Romero could also be handed a new contract as he continues to do well in a back-up role, although time will tell what this all means for Sam Johnstone who is currently impressing on loan at Aston Villa after a tricky start to life at Villa Park.

Nevertheless, the focus will be on De Gea and ensuring that he doesn’t return to Spain this summer as ultimately he is now established as one of the top shot-stopper’s in Europe and has the best part of at least another decade at the top if he maintains his current levels.

In turn, it’s no surprise that United don’t want to have the headache of having to try and replace him, and this big-money offer could now seal the deal.
