Newcastle will look to take back the Championship leadership from Brighton as they face Burton at St James, while Huddersfield will look to get back to winning ways against Norwich (KO 19:45).
Whilst most the midweek Championship action will have been played on the Tuesday this week, there is still plenty to look forward to come tonight, as Newcastle and Huddersfield look to consolidate their positions at the summit of the table.
Whilst Norwich have ultimately flopped in terms of their expectations this season, having been many people’s favourites to go back up but currently sit in 9th, the side still have significant quality and some of the best players in the second tier of English football.
In this sense, they can certainly cause third placed Huddersfield a few problems when they travel to the John Smith’s stadium later this evening.
The Terriers will certainly be favourites heading into the match having been a much stronger side throughout the course of the season, and having the home advantage and their odds against price of 11/10 is sure to attract plenty of attention.
An interesting stat to throw in here would be that Norwich having failed to beat any of the teams above them either home or away all season, and with an away record as poor as theirs, having won just 4 of the 20 away games that they have played this season, it is unlikely that this will change in this game, even if David Wagner’s side have failed to secure any points in their previous two outings.
Those who expect the Canaries to pull off a shock can get odds of around 3/1 on the away win.
Elsewhere, Burton Albion will be in a similar position to Norwich, as they face the monumental task of travelling to St James’ Park and trying to come away with something against Newcastle Utd, who found themselves knocked off the top spot following Brighton’s win last night.
Nigel Clough’s Burton are on the verge of being dragged into a relegation battle – something that could well have spurred their motivation in getting 2 wins in their last 3 games, including a 1-0 victory against Huddersfield as they battle for survival.
Rafa Benitez’s side however will see this as a must win game, and anything less than three points tonight will be seen as a disappointment.
Their price of 2/5 for the home win speaks volumes.
It should be another intriguing night from England’s second tier as the pressure of Championship promotion race gets turned up a notch.
