Oddly enough this will be the only game set to take place on a Saturday this weekend, as the Easter weekend schedule will see most of the weekends games having taken place on a Friday in all English leagues.
Brighton took a substantial step towards automatic promotion with a 2-0 victory over Wolves yesterday, while Newcastle dropped two points at home against Leeds Utd.
However, this game which see’s Aston Villa take on Reading is definitely a case of last but not least, as arguably two of the league’s stronger sides of late will be shaping up against each other.
Some might debate this statement in the case of Aston Villa, as the team who were relegated from the Premier League by quite a distant last season have managed to only end up in the top half recently, currently sitting in 11th.
However, it seems that their form has picked up of late as their players are finally showcasing what they are capable of to some degree.
The result has seen Villa go unbeaten in 5, and record 7 wins in their last 9 games, with a clean sheet coming in everyone of these victories.
With this in mind, and with the venue for the game being Villa Park, Reading will more than have their work cut out for them if they are to take the 3 points in this one, despite sitting significantly above Villa in the table.
Some might still consider Jaap Stam’s men favourites in this tie, as they currently sit in 4th, almost certain feature in the playoffs come the end of the season, but the Royals cannot be too complacent, with only three points separating the side from 7th placed Fulham.
Furthermore, Reading are also in pretty good form themselves, winning 3 of their last 4.
However, with the loss coming in their most recent outing, and being an astonishing 7-1 loss to Norwich City, morale is likely to be low with the Royals, and they’ll certainly have to pick up their game if they are to avoid such a defeat on the road again.
In this sense, Villa fans will be going in quietly confident, and will also be hoping for another goal bonanza at the expense of the playoffs side.
Betting wise, the evens available on Aston Villa to take all three points looks a stand out bet considering Reading have lost three of their last four on the road, while Villa have won their last four at Villa Park without conceding a single goal.
