Man Utd confirmed line-up vs Burnley: Rooney returns as Mourinho rings changes

Man Utd face a tough trip to Burnley on Sunday, and it’s made more difficult by the fact that Jose Mourinho has had an injury nightmare this past week.

Both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo were ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining serious knee injuries in the win over Anderlecht in the Europa League in midweek, and it adds to a list of absentees that appears to be growing longer each week.

However, United will have to put that to the back of their minds as they still have quality options in all departments, and they know that they must win on Sunday to keep their top-four hopes alive.

The Red Devils sit in fifth spot, four points adrift of rivals Manchester City with a game in hand, and dropping points at this crucial time of the season will be damaging.

As for their opponents, the Clarets are just five points above the relegation zone and so Sean Dyche will be expecting a committed performance from his men as they look to claim a major scalp and simultaneously take a massive step closer to safety.

The big team news as far as United are concerned is that Wayne Rooney returns to the starting line-up and reclaims the captain’s armband in the absence of Ibrahimovic with Anthony Martial alongside him, while Daley Blind comes in at the back to replace Rojo as Mourinho makes eight changes in total from midweek.
