Jurgen Klopp leading race to sign £20m star as he eyes major blow to Liverpool’s direct rivals

Liverpool are reportedly at the front of the queue in the race to land Arsenal ace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer as Jurgen Klopp eyes key signings.

The 23-year-old has just over 12 months remaining on his current contract with the Gunners, and as with several other key individuals at the club, there is a great deal of uncertainty over the future.

Klopp is seemingly hopeful of taking advantage of that uncertainty, with The Sun reporting that Liverpool are ready to test Arsenal’s resolve for the £20m man but they could face competition.

Despite staying fit, playing regularly and showing his versatility to impress in various positions this season, the report claims that the England international could be ready to test himself with a new challenge away from the Emirates.

Losing him to a direct Premier League rival would be a major blow for Arsene Wenger and he’ll likely do his part to convince Oxlade-Chamberlain to stay. However, if he is set on leaving, then surely the Gunners will want to bring in a transfer fee this summer rather than lose him for nothing in 12 months time if he is adamant about not signing a renewal.

As far as Liverpool are concerned though, Klopp will be looking to add several new faces to his squad this summer as they prepare for the Champions League and a sustained push for the Premier League title next season.

Adding players like Oxlade-Chamberlain who have experience in the Premier League and in Europe, would count as a homegrown player and who still has significant room for improvement which would be a perfect reason to link up with Klopp given his reputation for developing young players, it all seems to make sense.

Nevertheless, it’s still a big decision and time will tell if Arsenal are going to lose a key figure to Liverpool in what would be a really damaging blow for them.
