Jose Mourinho to secure first marquee Man Utd summer signing in £40m deal

Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly closing in on the £40m signing of Inter winger Ivan Perisic, fending off Chelsea for the Croatian international.

While Inter struggled this season, the 28-year-old had a decent campaign as he contributed 11 goals and 12 assists in 42 games for the Nerazzurri, and it seems that form has attracted the attention of two Premier League giants.

According to The Sun, United are ready to splash out £40m to take him to Old Trafford, while it’s added that he will pen a £100,000-a-week contract to become Mourinho’s first arrival this summer.

It’s not the first time that Perisic has been linked with a move to the Red Devils either, with the report noting that Mourinho reportedly flew out to Zagreb last month to put the finishing touches to the deal.

Despite interest from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, it’s noted that the winger has his heart set on a move to Man Utd, and ultimately it looks as though he could get his wish in the coming days.

Perisic’s versatility, work ethic and threat in the final third will all have contributed to Mourinho eyeing a move for him, although there may well be some raised eyebrows over the transfer fee being touted.

Whether the Croatian ace is worth that much, especially at 28 years of age, is up for debate, but ultimately if Mourinho believes that he will strengthen his squad, then it looks as though the United hierarchy are ready to back the Portuguese tactician this summer with another heavy spending transfer market.
