Jurgen Klopp set to axe trio, hopeful Liverpool can raise £60m in sales

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly set to allow three first-team stars to leave this summer in order to raise further transfer funds through player sales.

The Reds will return to the Champions League next season, provided they get through a qualifying round, and so additional quality and depth is needed.

While Klopp will undoubtedly be handed significant funds from the club, The Times claim that a large portion could also come from offloading players surplus to requirements at Anfield.

Those include Mamadou Sakho, Alberto Moreno and Lazar Markovic, who are expected to fetch £30m, £12m and £20m respectively, which is pretty decent money considering none of them have a long-term future at Liverpool.

Sakho has had his disciplinary issues over the last 12 months while spending the second half of last season out on loan at Crystal Palace as it doesn’t appear as though he will change Klopp’s thinking and is set to be axed, providing a club is willing to meet his asking price.

As for Moreno, the Spaniard was snubbed last season with James Milner favoured despite playing out of position at left-back, while Markovic was sent out on loan to Sporting Lisbon and Hull City last season as he doesn’t appear to be in the plans at Liverpool moving forward either.

All three are now seemingly set to be axed, and in truth it would make perfect sense as it would raise funds and create space in the squad for Klopp to bring in his own players and build a squad that he believes can compete for major honours both at home and abroad.
