Man Utd marquee summer signing could cost staggering £180m in total

Man Utd signing Alvaro Morata this summer could prove to be incredibly costly to the club, with the transfer fee and his contract combined reportedly costing £180m.

Despite scoring 20 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions last season, the Spaniard is out for a more prominent role elsewhere moving forward as he remains largely a back-up option at the Bernabeu.

Having also impressed during a two-year stint at Juventus, it’s clear that he can be a prolific scorer in the right team, and it could be United who offer him that opportunity,

According to The Sun though, he’s going to be extremely expensive. It’s claimed that Madrid are demanding £90m for him as a transfer fee, while the 24-year-old will secure a five-year contract worth £350,000-a-week.

That’s a sensational £180m in total, a huge amount of money to spend on a player who has to prove himself in the Premier League, as the pressure will certainly be on him next season and beyond to score regularly and lead the Man Utd line.

More so after Zlatan Ibrahimovic was released, Morata will spearhead the attack, and so he’ll certainly have to live up expectations and his price-tag.

As far as United are concerned, the financial side of things won’t arguably make too much of a difference to them, as shown last summer when they broke the transfer record for Paul Pogba.

Having already signed Victor Lindelof this summer, it’s likely to be just the start of their spending, but it remains to be seen whether or not Morata is the next in line to move to Old Trafford, and how that in turn affects the club’s transfer budget.

With Champions League football returning next season, Jose Mourinho will be desperate to bolster his squad as they look to compete on various fronts moving forward.
