Liverpool ready to make bid for £118m-rated star, but Arsenal boss Wenger is a step ahead

Liverpool are reportedly ready to make a bid for Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe this summer, as long as they know he wants a move to England.

The 18-year-old is undoubtedly the most sought-after talent in Europe this summer after his sparkling form for Monaco last season helped them to the Ligue 1 title and the semi-finals of the Champions League.

With 26 goals and 14 assists in 44 outings, the French international is a wanted man, and according to The Times, Liverpool are ready to lead the bidding for his services provided that they get the impression that he wants to continue his career in the Premier League, and of course preferably with them.

Real Madrid seem to be the most likely destination for the teenager given the appeal of joining the biggest club in Europe coupled with the opportunity to work with Zinedine Zidane, but it remains to be seen whether or not he can be persuaded otherwise.

As per The Independent, Mbappe could fetch a world-record fee of around £118m this summer, and another team that is hopeful he will pick them is Arsenal, with the report adding that Arsene Wenger has spoken directly to his compatriot over the phone about a possible move to the Emirates.

Wenger is said to have spoken specifically about a move to Arsenal, but also offered his advice in terms of a career plan to the youngster, as it seems as though the pair have a close enough relationship to possibly give the Gunners the edge in the transfer race.

Provided the club hierarchy are willing to splash out, it can’t be ruled out yet, but there are various issues involved in their situation including the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil and how that will impact their wage bill, along with their absence from the Champions League next season and Mbappe’s reported assertion that he sees them as a stepping stone.

Liverpool are seemingly ready to wait patiently and take their chance if it arises while Arsenal are taking a more hands-on approach. It remains to be seen if both end up missing out to the clout of Madrid.
