£75m Man Utd signing undergoes medical, will pen £250k-a-week deal

Man Utd are reportedly pushing through the signing of Romelu Lukaku, with the Belgian striker said to have undergone his medical in LA on Thursday night.

The 24-year-old is currently on holiday in the city along with Paul Pogba, and while he had been expected to fly back on Friday to start pre-season training with Everton, it looks as though he’ll stay in the US and wait to join United on their pre-season tour, as per The Guardian.

In turn, it looks as though Jose Mourinho is keen to get the deal over the line as quickly as possible, making Lukaku his second marquee summer signing after the acquisition of Victor Lindelof last month.

Man Utd will arrive in California on Sunday, and so it seems more likely than ever that they’ve held off competition from Chelsea to land the Belgian international who they will hope is the answer to their goalscoring troubles.

Mourinho’s side managed just 54 in 38 Premier League games last season, the worst record out of the top seven with several of the top sides reaching 80+. As a result, coupled with the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it was always a priority for United and it seems as though it’s set to be addressed.

Meanwhile, The Daily Star claim that Lukaku will earn £250,000-a-week as Man Utd once again exercise their financial muscle, as despite the fact that the former Chelsea striker was said to be keen on a return to Stamford Bridge, he has ultimately chosen a reunion with Mourinho in Manchester.

That in turn should see United drop their interest in Alvaro Morata, as per the report, which now opens up the possibility that Chelsea will swoop for him instead as Antonio Conte will undoubtedly be frustrated with the summer market thus far.
