Man Utd will reportedly complete the £100m signing of Romelu Lukaku this summer, after fending off Chelsea’s late push to swoop in and snatch him from their grasp.

The 24-year-old has been at the centre of plenty of speculation over the last few days, with United and Chelsea battling it out over his signature.

According to The Guardian, it’s Jose Mourinho who has won the race to sign the prolific Belgian, with the Red Devils set to splash out £75m plus an additional £15m in add-ons, while Wayne Rooney will move in the opposite direction to secure his return to Goodison Park.

It’s claimed that the England international is valued at around £10m, and so it takes the deal up to three figures at around £100m, although getting his wages off the books will undoubtedly be a major boost for Man Utd too as they look to balance things out financially.

Further, the Guardian suggest that Lukaku underwent his medical at the UCLA campus in Los Angeles, with Mourinho and his squad set to arrive in California on Sunday to start their pre-season tour. Paul Pogba is already out on the west coast with his potential new teammate, and so it all seems to be going well for United to wrap up this transfer.

As for Chelsea though, Antonio Conte will undoubtedly be bitterly disappointed and frustrated as to how the summer is panning out for the Premier League champions, and he must now consider his other options.

The report goes on to add that the likes of Alvaro Morata, Andrea Belotti and Alexis Sanchez will now come back into consideration, and with Diego Costa expected to leave coupled with growing suggestions that Conte is becoming increasingly infuriated, one of them will have to arrive soon in order to calm the reported tension that is growing at Stamford Bridge.
