Chelsea to make an audacious move for Tottenham star, will double his wages

After suffering a 2-1 loss yesterday to the hands of last season’s champions Chelsea, Tottenham could be dealt a second monumental blow from the Blues as Antonio Conte’s side look to make a move for key defender Toby Alderweireld, as reported by The Sunday Times, cited by The Sun.

It is reported that Chelsea will offer Alderweireld a ‘double your money’ offer on his current contract which the Belgian will struggle to turn down.

With The Daily Mail last week reporting that Alderweireld is already unhappy at not being given parity in his wages with the club’s top earners, this could be an offer that will turn the head of Tottenham’s star defender.

The initial report states that Chelsea will look to double the £49,000 per week contract that the defender is currently on at Tottenham with Daniel Levy currently unwilling to increase the stars wages as requested.

With the Spurs defensive line already losing Kyle Walker this summer, this is surely a move that they can’t afford to let happen. It remains to be seen as to whether this will seriously jeopardize Alderweireld’s future in a white shirt, but one thing that is for certain is that it’s not easy being a Spurs fan this summer.
