West Ham closing in on superstar in mammoth club-record £40m deal

West Ham are on the verge of completing a deal for Portuguese powerhouse William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon. The midfielder will become the club’s most expensive signing to date as West Ham’s summer spending continues.

Sky Sports have reported that the deal is close to being finalized although it will most likely require West Ham triggering a £40m buy-out clause for the star. It is understood that Sporting are unwilling to allow Carvalho to leave for anything below the midfielder’s buy-out clause, which will make him West Ham’s most expensive signing in the club’s history.

The Express reported yesterday that a five-year-deal has already been completed between West Ham and Carvalho with the fee between the clubs being the only matter that now needs to be agreed.

The arrival of the Portuguese international would add to West Ham’s impressive summer transfer window with Carvalho joining the likes of Joe Hart, Javier Hernandez, Pablo Zabaleta, and Marko Arnautovic to sign for the Hammers this summer.

Carvalho will undoubtedly add many qualities to West Ham’s midfield and the signing of the Euro 2016 winner is a sure sign that West Ham are unhappy with their return of zero points from their opening two fixtures of the Premier League.
